Who is who
All EUROGI members are represented in the General Board that elects the President and the Executive Committee.
EUROGI currently has 21 members – National Geographic Information Representatives (A-members), Corporate Members (B-members) and Other Organisations (C-members) involved in geographic information (GI) see section members.
General Board
The General Board is made up of all EUROGI members. They are charged with the general management of EUROGI. They meet each spring in person to discuss and decide on the ongoing strategy.
They also meet a few other times each year to exchange information on what is happening in their home countries and in Europe. For a detailed list of our Members, click here.
Our President
Alejandro Guinea de Salas is graduated as Land Surveyor at the University of the Basque Country in Spain, and he has a Master in Cartographic Geotechnologies in Engineering and Architecture at the University of Salamanca.
Since the beginning of his career – 30 years ago – he has been active in G.I.S and Geodata projects. He worked in private and public sector, and today as CEO at Geograma.
He is founding member of the Spanish Association of Property Surveyors and member of the Spanish SDI Working Group.
He was elected unanimously in the Madrid 2023 General Board Meeting.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is made up of 9 seats. They are charged with the day-to-day management of the foundation (Article 8.4 of the Statutes).
Alejandro Guinea de Salas, GEOGRAMA, Spain, President
Current term: Autumn 2025 – Autumn 2027
Alejandro Guinea de Salas is the manager of the Consultancy Department of Geograma. He graduated from the University of the Basque Country in Geomatics and topography engineering. In order to keep learning, he also studied a master in applied Geotechnologies, Urbanism and Architecture from the University of Salamanca.
He helps the clients to define the strategy of Geographic Information Systems, and to perform high specialization tasks like data collection, GI transform or development of geo-applications.
Besides, he belongs to Spanish working groups of the INSPIRE Directive. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of EUROGI (European Umbrella Organization for Geographic Information). His research interests include machine learning applied to geospatial processes.

Dr. Benedikt Gräler, DDGI, Germany, Vice President
Current term: Spring 2026 – Spring 2028
Dr. Benedikt Gräler is Managing Director of the 52°North Spatial Information Research GmbH. He is responsible for the research pursued at 52°North and keeps close contact with Universities and Associated Research Partners.
He represents the German Umbrella Organization for Geo-Information (DGGI) on the European level.
His research interest is devoted to Spatial and Spatiotemporal Data Science and the development of Research Data Infrastructures.
He completed his Diploma in Mathematics in 2009 and earned his PhD in Geoinformatics in 2014 at the Institute for Geoinformatics, University of Münster, Germany, researching Spatial and Spatiotemporal
Statistics.
In January 2016, he joined the Institute of Hydrology at the Ruhr-University Bochum as a Post-Doc.
Since May 2017, he works at the 52°North Spatial Information Research GmbH as a Research Associate and Consultant leading the Spatiotemporal Data Science Team and becoming one of the three Managing Directors in May 2021.
Maurice Barbieri, SOGI, Switzerland, Switzerland, Treasurer
EUROGI Treasurer (till 2024 spring)
Current term: Spring 2026 – Spring 2028
Maurice Barbieri was graduated in 1986 as Dipl. Kulturingenieur at the Polytechnic School of Zurich (ETH). After passing the Surveyor’s Federal State exam in 1988, he became Publicly Appointed Surveyor. He owns the companies Géodétec (Surveying office) and SIT-Conseil (GIS office). His companies are active in Switzerland and abroad.
Since 1998 he is member of the Ex-Board of IGS (Ingenieur-Geometer Schweiz, Surveyors Association of Switzerland) and President since 2009. In 2010, he was elected Chair of CLGE / IG PARLS (Interest Group of Publicly Appointed Surveyors of the European Council of Surveyors).
Since 2011, he is vice-President of SOGI Switzerland (Swiss GI Association) and in charge of the International coordination. Since then, he has been representing SOGI Switzerland in EUROGI.
He is married and has four children, and in his free time he enjoys cooking, wine and cigars and practices skiing and basketball.
Josef Strobl, AGEO, Austria, Executive committee member
Current term: Spring 2022 – Spring 2028
Josef Strobl holds degrees in Geography from the University of Vienna and currently is Head of the Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg. Via the worldwide UNIGIS distance learning network, through successful residential MSc and PhD programmes in Geoinformatics and by initiating international curriculum development and mobility programs Prof Strobl has helped the growth of the GIS industry and fostered the careers of a generation of geospatial experts.
Josef Strobl has established the Research Studio ‘iSpace’ within the Research Studios Austria Gmbh, and as a full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) he led its GIScience Institute and now chairs the ÖAW Commission for Geographic Information Science. Prof Strobl is a former president of the Austrian Umbrella Organisation AGEO, serves on the boards of international geospatial organisations as well as conferences and scientific journals. As the founder of the annual AGIT / GI_Forum Geoinformatics symposia he always looks forward to meet friends and colleagues at these and other events!

Emmanuel Pajot, EARSC, Belgium, Executive Committee Member
Current term: Spring 2022 – Spring 2028
Emmanuel Pajot is Secretary General of EARSC, the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies. A geologist by training, he has more than 20 years of experience in remote sensing, GIS, and geodata projects, with a career spanning both the energy sector and the European Earth observation community. He joined EARSC in 2017 and has since contributed to the association’s work on projects, innovation, and industry representation.
Hans Breemersch, AM/FM Belux, Belgium, Executive Committee Member
Current term: Autumn 2023 – Autumn 2026
Hans Breemersch is Secretary General of AM/FM-GIS Belgium/Luxembourg. He is also a geospatial and Geo-ICT professional with extensive experience in GIS, spatial analysis, location-based services, GPS, sales, and partner management.
He currently works as Business Development Manager at GeoSquare Belgium, focusing on account management in Belgium and international business development. Over the years, he has held senior roles at GEO Solutions, 1Spatial, STAR-APIC, and Eurosense, building a strong track record in geospatial software, services, and international sales.
Hans Breemersch has also been active in EUROGI, where he served as President and contributed to the organisation’s governance and European geospatial dialogue.
Monica Sebillo, AMFM GIS ITALIA, Italy, Executive committee member
Current term: Autumn 2024 – Autumn 2028
Monica Sebillo is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Salerno. She graduated (summa cum laude) in Computer Science and received her PhD degree in Applied Math and Computer Science from University of Salerno in 1998. Her research interests include geographic databases and information systems, Human-GIS interaction and geographic information engineering. On those topics she has published several scientific papers in international journals, contributed volumes, and conference proceedings. She collaborates with national and international research groups and companies, and has been involved in the scientific organization of many international events in the area of geographic information systems. She is the director of the Sistemi Informativi Geografici Laboratory. Since 2011 she’s been a member of AMFM GIS Italia executive committee and is currently president. She is also an ACM senior member and a member of the ICT Panel of Experts for the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Last year she worked as member of the UNI / CT 526 “UNINFO APNR-ICT” Commission and UNI / CT 526 / GL 04 working group (with AMFM / GIS Italia and Stati Generali dell’Innovazione) for the establishment of the “Professional Profile on Geographic Information”. The norm is published as UNI 11621-5:2018.
Bruce McCormack, Bruce McCormack Consulting Ltd., Ireland, Executive Committee Member
EUROGI Vice-President (till 2024 spring)
Spring 2026 – Spring 2029
He has a consulting planning and spatial data service called Bruce McCormack Consulting. He is also currently Managing Director of AfricaScope Europe, a company which focuses on selling African data to European companies and providing spatially related analytical services.
He is currently the President of the Irish Organisation for Geographic Information (IRLOGI) and for the four year period up until May 2015 he was the President of EUROGI.
Bruce has considerable experience regarding promoting new ideas and initiatives, particularly through is years in the private sector where he has established and built five new companies (the largest having 36 staff), and his years as Presidents of both IRLOGI and EUROGI. Through his involvement in both EUROGI and IRLOGI he has extensive experience in networking through contacts in a wide variety of sectors and with people at all levels in the geospatial community.
Dr. Domen Mongus, Slovenia, Executive Committee Member
Current term: Spring 2026 – Spring 2029
Dr. Domen Mongus is a full professor and head of the Laboratory for Geospatial Modelling, Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence (GeMMA) at the University of Maribor. His research focus is on the fusion of heterogeneous geospatial data sources and streams for the development of spatially aware artificial intelligence methods and applications. In his academic career, he received several awards for his scientific and pedagogic work.
Amongst others, he was named Young Scientist of the Danube Region by the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM), received an IS Award for ongoing work, and several awards for Pedagogic and Research Excellence at UM-FERI. His work on processing large georeferenced point clouds was pronounced as an Exceptional Achievement of Slovenian Science by the Slovenian Research Agency, while he received the highest awards at the University of Maribor for his Exceptional contributions to its scientific and pedagogical reputation and excellence, as well as Industrial collaboration and knowledge transfer in 2018 and 2023, respectively. In 2022, he was also named for A legend of Slovenian Computer Science and Informatics by the program committee of Information Society.
Zilmil Bordoloi, Executive Committee Member
Current term: Spring 2026 – Spring 2029
Zilmil Bordoloi studied Geography at the University of Bern and specialized in Spatial Information Technology at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. She currently serves as Head of the Geospatial Information Centre and the BIM Competence Centre for the City of Lucerne, where she leads a multidisciplinary team delivering services, consultancy, data management, and solutions across the city administration, as well as for the municipal energy provider and private companies.
She has also served for the past three years as Co-President of SOGI, the Swiss Organisation for Geoinformation. In this role, she supports an umbrella organisation that brings together public authorities, private companies, academic institutions, and research organisations to foster collaboration and innovation in the Swiss geoinformation sector.
Her professional focus includes sustainable geospatial data, interoperability, standards, interfaces, education, workforce development, and diversity. She believes that strategic vision creates lasting impact when translated into measurable objectives that generate sustainable value for both society and the economy.
